Jason Tougaw
(Music For Dancing)
Jason Tougaw—also known as Dr. Tougaw--hosts The Mixtape on WJFF Radio Catskill. He's known to many upstate / Catskills / Sullivan County residents for his eclectic, freewheeling format that harkens back to the good days of cassette tapes, boom boxes, and no celphones, even while keeping the airwaves fresh with the best of the new.
Dr. Tougaw specializes in highly danceable grooves—just the right ration of unexpected, slightly off-the-beaten-track tunes and pure classics to surprise and delight partygoers. He knows how to feel a crowd and fill a dancefloor. Think neo-soul, classic soul, indie pop, new wave, dance hall, and pure pop. Think Roy Ayers, Le Tigre, Labi Siffre, Ozomatli, Diana Ross, A Certain Ratio, Christine and the Queens, Yaz, Rüfüs du Sol, Aretha, Prince, Lizzo, Jungle, Duke Dumont. You never know when he’ll slip in a next-level cover of “Stayin’ Alive” by an underground Swedish band or a Steely Dan track covered by an electronica artist specializing in heavy grooves.
